Design our next Club Jersey!

John Jackson writes: We recently asked members whether they would like us to order some new club kit, and received a positive reply.

So now we'd like to give members the opportunity to have a go at designing it. Why not have a go!

To help (or hinder you), we've provided pictures of the 'recent' gilet and the 'old' Club jersey. Click for a larger version.

Designs can be done in any medium (pen/pencil with colour annotations, felt-tip/crayon or using something like Microsoft Paint). Once you’ve produced your design please send an electronic (scanned or photographed) copy to membership@ by Sunday 2nd February.

Your design ideas don't have to be 'perfect': the suppliers will work them up for final approval, but it would be helpful if you could ensure that we know your proposals for colours, wording (font), and any special design features.

All designs submitted will appear on our website prior to announcing the winner (unless you request otherwise). The winning design will be selected by the Committee and the winning designer will receive £30 to go towards the purchase of a jersey.

We look forward to receiving your design ideas! John

Busway blues this winter

Dangerous barriers installed at Biomedical Campus

On the south side of Cambridge, staggered cycle barriers have been installed across the busway cycleway near the the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, on the east side of the bridge over the railway.

They are dangerous as they are hard to see, especially in the dark. They are positioned at the bottom of a steep slope which makes them a collision hazard for downhill cyclists and creates a difficult manoeuvre for uphill cyclists. They will increase conflict and congestion on this very busy path, and will create particular difficulties for people using large bikes such as those towing child trailers. We support .

Busway cycleway closed between Orchard Park and Histon

North of Cambridge, the busway cycleway is once again closed between Histon and Orchard Park because of A14 works. The closure began on 6th January and will "last for approximately one month". The alternative route via the big A14 roundabout south of Histon is difficult because the cycleway on the east side of the roundabout is currently closed due to the same A14 works.

Works on the cycleway between Histon and Oakington

A company called Harlaxton Engineering is laying power cables down the side of the busway cycleway between Histon and Oakington. The cycleway will remain open. Work was suspended over Christmas and has not yet (11 Jan) restarted, but when it does we expect the cycleway past the works to again become muddy and reduced in width to a mere "1.2m", with signs saying "cyclists please dismount". Work will continue through to "mid March".

Flooding between Swavesey and St Ives

The busway cycleway is still closed between Swavesey and St Ives Park and Ride due to flooding. The normal on-road diversion route is via Swavesey, Fen Drayton and Fenstanton, entering St Ives via the old bridge. This adds an extra 3.1miles (5km).

Please let us know if you have any updates.
